Talk about music to the city of Atlanta’s ears. First reported by Felipe Cardenas, United will sign a long-term extension with Josef Martinez.

Last year, Martinez set an MLS-record for goals in the regular season with 31.

With all that success, comes constant transfer rumors, and Martinez has been the subject of such discussions ever since arriving in Atlanta from Torino, an Italian based football club. He still has three years remaining on his current contract.

In 2018, Martinez reportedly made a salary nearing $1.4 million, far away from Sebastian Giovinco – the MLS’s highest-paid player at $7.15 million. Look for his next contract to include a hefty raise that will put him on par with some of the highest paid players in the league.

Coming off a championship in just their second season, it is imperative that United ink their star goal-scorer to a long-term deal. He has brought so much excitement to the sport and a city that has not had the luxury of many winning teams.

Update: Martinez inks a five-year extension with United through the 2023 season!
