KD says the Hawks were the team that properly welcomed him back to the NBA last year

The Hawks take on the Nets on ESPN tonight in what should be one of the more entertaining games of the year just based on both teams’ playing styles. Kevin Durant is once again making a case for an MVP award, leading the league in scoring. The days of wondering if the lingering effects of his Achilles injury are still bothering him are well in the rearview.

But when he was initially coming off the injury last season, he talked about his holy shit moment once he got back, and he said it came against the Hawks.

The Hawks and Nets played back-to-back in the fourth and fifth games of the season, with both games taking place in the Barclay’s Center, and Atlanta more than held their own. They were narrowly defeated by Brooklyn 145-141 in Game 1, but Game 2 was all Hawks, as they won by a score of 114-96.

More than anything, though, I thought these comments were pretty cool. The national media may still not be bullish on the Hawks, but game recognizes game. Kevin Durant is the best player on the planet today, and he knows as well as anyone that tonight’s showdown at State Farm Arena will be a tough task for his Nets.
