Odds of who will be the next Auburn football coach

Jordan Hare is one of the best places to play in the country. The school sits in a hotbed for recruiting, and the Tiger faithful is second to none in their financial and emotional support. The next Auburn head coach will have plenty of resources to succeed.

Bryan Harsin was just fired after the hiring of a new Athletic Director, and to me, it was long overdue. Harsin was clearly ill-equipped to handle this caliber of a job Now, Auburn will search for a new man to hand the keys to the program. Here’s how Vegas oddsmakers see it:

It’s about time Hugh Freeze gets some consideration from top programs in the country. The former Ole Miss and current Liberty head coach can develop talent and is a masterful offensive mind. However, there are roadblocks. Liberty just inked Freeze to a contract extension last week, and his name has long been blackballed by the big programs because of his tenure with Ole Miss, which was marred with controversy. Time heals all wounds, so hopefully, he starts to get interview requests this hiring cycle.

Freeze might be my top choice behind Lane Kiffin. He’s an offensive wizard and has shown an incredible ability to connect with college kids. Kiffin has matured since his previous head coaching stints, but I’m not sure Auburn has enough in the bank to pull Kiffin away from Oxford. He probably sees the two schools as similarly positioned to succeed, and Kiffin has already established himself at Ole Miss.

My personal favorite, purely for entertainment purposes, would be Prime Time. Deion Sanders has that homerun or bust factor for any Power 5 school hiring the Hall of Famer. I love the idea of an SEC school giving Sanders a shot, but I don’t know if Auburn is willing to take that risk after firing their coach not even two seasons into his contract. It could be another expensive mistake.

I like Jeff Grimes, Mark Stoops, and Matt Rhule for the position at Auburn too. I don’t think they could go wrong with any of those candidates. If I had to gamble on the next Auburn head coach, I’d bet on Hugh Freeze. He’s the most attainable coach and clearly has the upside a school like Auburn is interested in. Matt Rhule would be a close second, who proved to be one of the best coaches in college football at Baylor before the Panthers poached him.
