A lot can happen in 21 years.

It took Ronald Acuna Jr 21 years to finally take over Major League Baseball. It took 21 years for Hank Aaron to pass Babe Ruth on the all time home run list.

And now it took 21 years for the All Star Game to come back to Atlanta.

An announcement at SunTrust Park today made it official. The Atlanta Braves will host the 2021 Midsummer Classic.

The Braves hosted the All Star Game back in 2000, following Chipper Jones’ MVP season. Purely coincidental, but I like to think it fits.

What Happened 21 Years Ago

Things were a bit different the last time Atlanta hosted.

The last time Atlanta saw an All Star Game, we saw Hall of Famers Ivan Rodriguez and Roberto Alomar take on Vladimir Guerrero and Randy Johnson on the fields of the late Turner Field. Chipper went 3-3 with a home run. Derek Jeter won the All Star MVP award after going 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. Al Leiter, a well-known baseball broadcaster, was the losing pitcher. Needless to say, it’s been a long time.

Tickets are not yet on sale for the Atlanta Midsummer Classic. If you’re a Braves a-list member, you can go here for ticket packages and information.
