Potential Trade Targets for the Falcons

The Falcons will continue to tweak their roster as the season opener against the Eagles approaches. The 69-man roster is almost set with the 53-man roster and 16-man practice squad, but there are still ways to improve the personnel. Most of these trades aren’t likely because of the Falcons cap situation, but a couple of restructures or extensions would easily generate enough cap space for any of these proposals — namely, Grady Jarrett and Matt Ryan.

DE Derek Barnett, Eagles

Barnett had his 2021 salary restructured into a signing bonus as Josh Sweat emerges along the Eagles defensive front. A former 2017 first-round pick, Barnett could see his snaps quickly diminish as Sweat ascends. I doubt Howie Roseman wants to give him a long-term deal, so why not recoup some of your investment. Barnett is better suited as a 4-3 defensive end, but he’d instantly become one of the best pure pass rushers on the Falcons. Surely, Dean Pees could find a place for him.

CB Bryce Callahan, Broncos

According to Albert Breer, Callahan has been mentioned in trade talks as the Broncos have a surplus of defensive backs on the roster. Even though Callahan thrives in the slot, the Falcons can’t just sit pat and hope Isaiah Oliver pans out. Callahan would instantly upgrade the Falcons secondary.

G Isaac Seumalo, Eagles

After injuries plagued the Philadelphia offensive line, they have built a solid group of experienced depth players. With Landon Dickerson emerging as a starter, Seumal could be an option as a versatile guard.

G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Chiefs

In the same piece that Breer stated teams were sniffing around Callahan, he mentioned a Kansas City offensive lineman that could help the Falcons thin group. “Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (who was doing things more important than football last year) has come up in talks, but he’s got a no-trade clause, making it more likely he’ll be on Kansas City’s roster.”
