In a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today (Reader Beware), the Braves had discussions about trading Austin Riley and acquiring a veteran third baseman during this past offseason. Thankfully, the Braves stayed patient, and they were rewarded with an MVP caliber season:

Nightengale listed Josh Donaldson, Eduardo Escobar, Nolan Arenado, and Luis Urias as options that the Braves were considering. Nightengale also says Ron Washington was a big reason why Atlanta held firm with Riley.

“There were all these people in this auditorium … giving their opinion, saying what he is … when they came to me, I said ‘stud’. The kid is going to be a stud.”

The Braves obviously made the right choice, as they may not be in the World Series or even in the playoffs at all without Austin Riley’s efforts in the second half of the season.
