After it was reported that the Hawks and John Collins are expected to come to an agreement on a massive contract when free agency begins today at 6 PM, reports are also surfacing that Trae Young is going to be rewarded handsomely as well:
The Hawks and guard Trae Young are expected to finalize terms on a max contract shortly after midnight, a source told @TheAthletic. The NBA technically doesn't allow extension of rookie deals until after midnight.

And surely it will include a clause if he happens to make All-NBA this upcoming season, his final year on his rookie contract, which would allow him to make more money

Trae Young has been incredible for the Hawks, and he showed even more potential as a floor general in Nate McMillan‘s offense. While Young’s scoring output took a small dip in 2021, the Hawks found loads of success by utilizing his crafty passing and allowing him to take over the game at appropriate times. Even with a Hawks roster that was badly beaten up, Young was the catalyst that carried them to the Eastern Conference Finals. This is an easy decision, and I like that the Hawks are getting his contract out of the way now, if the report is accurate. With John Collins expected to be back, all eyes will turn to Lou Williams to see if the Hawks truly plan on running it back in 2021-2022.
