At around 4 AM last night, Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic were arrested outside of 1 OAK, a bar in New York City, after Indiana Pacers Forward Chris Copeland reportedly was stabbed outside the club. The two were both arrested for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene. According to reports, Antic grabbed a police officer, while Thabo charged at another. They were officially each charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration. The Hawks Vice President of Public Relations stated that the team is “aware” of the situation and that the organization is still gathering information on the events. This is definitely an embarrassing story on many levels. Thabo has missed time this season with a calf injury and was seen limping on video following the arrest. Antic has played abysmal basketball all season, and hearing his name pop up surely isn’t music to the ears of Hawks fans. It’s no secret that many NBA players live a nightlife, but getting in legal trouble and putting your body on the line, let alone on the night of a back-to-back, is simply unacceptable and detrimental not only to the fans, but their own teammates. This incident put a real damper on what was otherwise a historic night for the Hawks, as they set a franchise-record with 58 wins in a single season with their win against Phoenix. The Hawks have been looking to reunite as a healthy unit for quite some time and we hope that Thabo’s injury is minor as Paul Millsap looks to return soon. SportsTalkATL will update this accordingly and we wish Chris Copeland a speedy recovery.
