Keith Sanchez of the Draft Network unveiled his first mock draft of the season, and he has an interesting pick for the Falcons…

Even if you disagree with this mock, go check The Draft Network out; they have a ton of good writers and top-notch NFL Draft scouting. I’m not even opposed to the Falcons selecting a quarterback, but selecting Desmond Ridder 6th overall is a little premature at this point. Here’s what Sanchez had to say about the pick:

6. Falcons: Desmond Ridder QB, Cincinnati

Last year, the Falcons passed up on the opportunity to draft Matt Ryan’s successor and drafted TE Kyle Pitts. This year, they make a move for the future and draft Desmond Ridder. The Falcons have young offensive weapons Calvin Ridley and Pitts. Drafting Ridder will complete the Falcons’ transition to becoming a younger team and set the blueprint for the future.

I’m not even sure if Ridder is a second-round talent at this point. Cincinnati has been very good, but he hasn’t made the big step that I thought he would in 2021… at least, not yet. I actually wanted the Falcons to spend a fourth-round pick on Ridder in 2021, but he decided to go back to school. With names like Aidan Hutchison, Malik Willis, Matt Corral, Treylon Burks, George Karlaftis, Kaiir Elam, and Ahmad Gardner on the board in this hypothetical — I think Ridder would be a reach.

Still, Ridder has a lot of projectability, and a lot can change between now and April. It’s always fun to be so bold this early in the draft process, but I don’t love the pick… for now.

Thanks for reading about the Draft Network’s first-round selection for the Falcons. If you liked this, also check out Jake Gordon’s most recent Mock Draft Monday.
