The Hawks begin their GM search

The Hawks are shuffling the deck atop the organization. Fans finally got some clarification and cofirmation of the rumors that spread like wildfire via Twitter. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports came out and reprted yesterday that Mike Budhenholzer had relinquished his President role, and that Wes Wilcox was out as general manager, but would be retained with another front office position.

Chris Vivlamore of the AJC offered more clarification on the matter in a piece that featured Hawks owner Tony Ressler. It was revealed that Wilcox’s new position will be to serve as a special advisor to ownership. In other words, the search for a new general manager has begun.

Whoever will be brought in has assets to work with. The team has a young trio that includes Dennis Schroder, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Taurean Prince, given that the team will match an offer for Hardaway. The Hawks also have five first round picks stockpiled over the next three seasons.

Nevertheless, the Hawks are in a tough spot. The team has to decide whether to bring back Paul Millsap. The biggest challenge will be trying to find a taker for Kent Bazemore and his nightmare contract.

For fans curious about potential candidates, two of the brightest minds on the market could be 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie and Celtics assistant general manager Mike Zarren.

I sure do miss Danny Ferry.
