In a season that has completely surpassed expectations, the Atlanta Falcons will play in the granddaddy of them all. They face the greatest head coach/quarterback duo in the history of football in Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Atlanta obliterated the Green Bay Packers 44-21 in the NFC Championship, while the Patriots cruised against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship. It has been just a few days since each game, but the Boston media has already seemed to crown the Patriots Super Bowl champions once again. Oh boy Boston fans, keep doubting these Atlanta Falcons.
I will be the first to admit, I cannot stand Boston sports, and I especially cannot stand the fans. It is absolutely incredible to see how spoiled and arrogant the majority of these fans truly are. I actually have a couple of friends from Boston who live here down south, and they are some great people who actually respect Atlanta’s professional sporting teams. But all of these Boston fans have experienced more championships in ten years then most opposing fans will experience in their lifetime. Former Alabama coach Bear Bryant, one of the best college football coaches in history, said a quote that has always stuck with me. He said, “It’s awfully important to win with humility. It’s also important to lose. I hate to lose worse than anyone, but if you never lose you won’t know how to act. If you lose with humility, then you can come back.”
The reason this article is being put up is because of an article that was sent to us by our subscribers. An article published by the Boston Globe was titled, “It’s hard to get pumped up about a Super Bowl against…Atlanta.” Now first off, the Atlanta part is not the first thing that irritated me. Remember when I said how arrogant and spoiled some of these Boston people are? Come on Dan Shaughnessy (author of the article), your team just made it to the Super Bowl, and you are so spoiled that you complain about how boring the franchise is they face? Cry me a river!
Mr. Shaughnessy, you close your laughable article by saying, “Now we’re going to get some real history. The final chapter of the most passionate and hate-fueled mission in the history of Boston sports will conclude in Houston Feb. 5, and the team standing in the path of the perfect ending is a team from Atlanta.” What makes you so confident that the Super Bowl will be a cakewalk? If it were up to you, the Patriots would have already been anointed Super Bowl champions after the conference championship games. But hey, I do admire your confidence in your team. In Boston, the question is not if their team will make the playoffs, rather it is how far will their teams advance in the postseason.
At the end of the day, Atlanta is the hottest team in the NFL. They just beat a Green Bay team who won eight consecutive games, while limiting Aaron Rodgers who was scorching hot before this game. It was a complete team victory, as the offense went off yet again, and the defense played their assignments and helped put the game out of reach early. Not to mention, cornerback Brian Poole made sure that Aaron Rodgers will remember the Falcons hard hitting defense.
Not taking anything away from New England, but I truly believe that the Falcons are clicking on all cylinders and are currently the best team in the NFL. It is way too early to make a final prediction for the game, but how could one doubt this Falcons team after everything they have accomplished thus far? The team has bought into and trust Dan Quinn and his staff, the defense has played better each game, and not to mention having one of the best offenses in NFL history always helps.
Dan Shaughnessy, you are more than welcome to trash our fans all you want, as it is freedom of speech. But I got to break the news to you; The Falcons and Patriots football teams will be the ones playing the game, not the fans. So I am sorry that you did not enjoy your first round NBA playoff game between the Hawks and Celtics last April, and I assure you that the next chapter between our sports teams will be much more entertaining. Keep doubting the Falcons though, Dan, because this team and this city are starving for a championship. People from Boston are so accustomed to their professional sports teams winning, so it’s time for a reality check come February 5.
