Atlanta Braves

The Braves got their revenge of the Rockies last night with a blowout of their own. Lucas Sims won the first game of his young career, and the Braves backed him with a lot of run support, incorporating four homers. They scored ten runs and split the four-game set, taking the finale 10-4.

Seven of the eight Braves hitters had at least one hit and Lucas Sims held the Rockies to five hits. In his fourth start, he posted his best numbers so far this season, lasting five innings and giving up two runs on five hits. When Sims left the game, the Braves were up 4-2 but erupted in the never-ending seventh inning, scoring six runs. Five home runs were hit from four different people and the young stars shined again.

Tyler Flowers started the scoring with a lead off solo-homer in the second inning. Ryan Mcmahon started it off for the Rockies, with an RBI double in the following inning, followed by a run himself from an RBI by Charlie Blackmon. Ender Inciarte led off the third inning with a solo home run and did the same thing in the fifth inning to give the Braves a one-run lead. Two Batters later, Freddie Freeman hit his longest home run of the season to give the Bravos a 4-2 lead.

Then the explosion came…. The top of the seventh began with a pair of base hits followed by an RBI single from Brandon Phillips. With two outs, Matt Adams hit a pinch-hit double into the gap to score two runs. Dansby Swanson hit his first triple of the season to score a pair as well and Lane Adams capped it off with an RBI single to make it a 10-2 game. The Rockies scored some garbage time runs with a few hits off of Jim Johnson and a homerun by Charlie Blackmon in the ninth off of Jose Ramirez, but they were never able to threaten Atlanta. It is the first time that the Braves scored double-digit runs since the rout of the Nats right before the all-star break.

Dansby Swanson reached base three times with two RBI’s and Ozzie Albies went 2-5 with a triple. Both Albies and Swanson were at one time #1 prospects in the Braves loaded system and look sure to prove why they were ranked that high. The Braves pinch-hitters went 2-4 with three RBI’s, which has been something that has become common since Atlanta reloaded their bench. The Rockies did poorly with runners on, going a whopping 1-13 with RISP and leaving eleven on. They had nine hits all together and six of them came from Johnathon Lucroy and Charlie Blackmon. After the low-scoring game on Monday night, the teams combined to score 43 runs in the series, which is a typical four-game series at Coor’s Field.

The Braves return home to play three with the Reds. R.A. Dickey takes the rubber for game one while facing Sal Romano at a 7:35 in Hotlanta.

Atlanta Hawks

In the very small quiet time in the NBA that we have, the Hawks made some news yesterday when they became the thirteenth team in the league to reach an agreement to add an advertisement to their left chest.

The company is Scharecare, an Atlanta based health and wellness company. The agreement is for five years and includes much more than just the patch on the jersey. Sharecare will become the Hawks second largest sponsor behind only Phillips, who own the naming rights to the Hawks arena.
