3 Things We Learned in Day 2 of Training Camp

1. Matt Ryan Looks to be in Midseason Form

Though it was just a practice, the Falcons quarterback didn’t seem to miss a beat. Ryan was accurate all day, and hit many different receivers throughout the practice. He had one miss, which was intercepted by Desmond Trufant on the play that brought a buzz throughout the practice facility. It was hard to fault Ryan on that, as Trufant’s pick was due to his high football IQ. Matt Ryan knows he is a leader on the team, and he looks to continue to make players around him look better.

 2. The Offensive Line is Still a Work in Progress

Now even though it is early, it looks like the Falcons are not sure who their main starting five core will be. The starters during this practice were Jake Matthews, Mike Person, Joe Hawley, Jon Asamoah, and Ryan Schraeder. Schraeder did not take reps in 11 on 11, so Tyler Polumbus stepped in and took a good share of first-team reps. Chris Chester took some reps for Asamoah, as he is still recovering from an ankle injury. It’s nothing to be panicking about, but the main core needs time to gel together as a unit. All of the offensive linemen seemed to be upbeat, and they seemed to have a solid practice today.

3. Desmond Trufant has the Best Practice Yet Again

The NFL fans will continue to hear Trufant’s name. The player simply shows the abilities that only elite cornerbacks have. Just like every other practice, Trufant is always first to finish drills and always has the crowd interested in his play. He made the play of the day, undercutting Matt Ryan’s attempted pass to Julio Jones. Rated the sixth best cornerback overall by Pro Football Focus last season, Trufant continues to gradually get better and better. If he performs like he does in practice, he will be a monster this upcoming season.
