Hector Olivera Arrested, Accused of Assault

Things just keep exponentially going downhill for the Atlanta Braves. Rookie Hector Olivera was arrested last evening and has been accused of assaulting a woman. The 31-year old’s acquisition by the front office has been questioned by much of the fanbase given his age and the loss of Alex Wood as well as Jose Peraza. This will not exactly earn him any brownie points with the fanbase.

Reports indicate that the woman had several bruises and was hospitalized. With society putting a larger emphasis on reducing domestic violence in recent years, this is a big time no-no by Olivera. The Cuban left fielder has hit 24-for-98 (.245) in his short time in the majors. He will be placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball. They may opt to wait until trial to strike down a punishment, so he could potentially be sidelined for a while. The Braves are scarce on bats, and it was going to take a breakout season from Olivera to elevate their offense. A suspension could be looming, which may lead the way for Mallex Smith to become a regular in the lineup. For now, Daniel Castro has been promoted from AAA Gwinnett in a corresponding roster move. We will provide more details as they emerge.

This appears to be yet another step towards the Braves receiving the 1st overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
