Pre-Draft Profile: Devon Dotson

Monday, the Atlanta Hawks finished up their ninth day of pre-draft workouts at the team’s facility allowing six new prospects to showcase their skills and knowledge to the organization.

Among the six in attendance at the workout was Kansas freshman guard, Devon Dotson. The Charlotte native is coming off a solid first campaign where he averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He was named to the All-Big 12 third team and the Big 12 All-Freshman team. Dotson was also a 5-star recruit coming out of high school, according to 247 Sports, and was a McDonald’s All-American.

The Kansas guard was invited to the NBA Combine last week and described it as a great experience. He met with Denver, Utah, Washington, and Boston while he was there. Dotson is an early entry candidate, so he has until May 29th to decide if he wants to go back and play for the Jayhawks or not. He told SportsTalkATL that he plans to wait until the deadline to choose and will lean mostly on advice from his family and the feedback he has heard from NBA teams.

When asked about what he wants to improve most as he potentially heads to the NBA – the answer was all facets.

“I can improve every part of my game for the next level. I would say being more consistent shooting off the dribble and creating my own shot are two areas I’m working on,” Dotson said.

The Hawks are now less than a month away from the NBA Draft on June 20th. The evaluation process began months ago, but Atlanta will continue to bring in some intriguing faces they could select with one of their five picks come draft night. And we will be here to cover each one for you.
