The Hawks have been involved in a lot of trade rumors — too many to count — but this one should excite everyone who cheers for Atlanta’s basketball team. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Hawks and Spurs have discussed a blockbuster trade that would send John Collins to San Antonio with Dejounte Murray going to the Hawks.

It’s well known that the Hawks are looking for a co-star to pair with Trae Young. Murray is likely the best they could possibly do, but it will take a lot more than John Collins to get this deal done.

Murray is coming off an All-Star season in which he nearly averaged a triple-double — 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.3 rebounds. He’s a point guard, but his length and elite defensive ability should allow him to play alongside Trae Young without a problem, and Murray could also take over as the primary ball handler when Young is off the floor.

In the tweet above, Fischer mentions the Spurs are looking for a return similar to the one the Pelicans received for Jrue Holiday. In that deal, New Orleans received Eric Bledsoe, Steven Adams, two first-round picks, and two pick swaps. If I’m the Hawks, I’m pulling the trigger on a trade like that without hesitation for Murray.

This is a situation to monitor closely over the next 24 hours. Previous reports have stated the Hawks want to move Collins before the draft, so we could have a blockbuster trade to discuss in just a matter of hours.
