The Braves cannot afford any injuries heading into their toughest stretch of baseball. However, they will be without their most effective reliever so far this season for at least the beginning of it. Arodys Vizcaino is headed to the 10-day DL-retroactive to July 3rd- with a right index finger strain as reported by the Braves earlier this evening.

Vizcaino just began closing games for the Braves again because of Jim Johnson’s recent struggles. He has been the most consistent reliever for Atlanta all season and has some of the nastiest stuff in all of the majors.
In a corresponding move the Braves will be recalling Matt Wisler from AAA Gwinnett.

Wisler may have lost his opportunity become a starter for now, but perhaps he can become an effective bullpen arm for the Braves in the future. He has been given plenty of opportunities in the majors over the last two seasons and has a 6.60 ERA in 7 appearances for the Braves this season.
