Braves City Connect gets high ranking from The Athletic

MLB: JUN 10 Nationals at Braves

The Braves are an iconic franchise. Not only is the club the class of baseball right now, but they have a rich history that dates back to 1871 when they were the Boston Red Stockings.

Then, they moved to Milwaukee with a roster filled with Hall of Famers like Hank Aaron, Eddie Matthews, and Warran Spahn — before a cold period after moving to Atlanta… until the early 90s.

From 1991 to 2005, the Braves were once again one of the most successful teams in the sport, winning an unbelievable 14 consecutive division titles and making an MLB record eight successive NLCS appearances.

Moreover, it hasn’t just been on the field impact. The club became nationally renowned thanks to Ted Turner and TBS while producing some of the most iconic uniforms in sports history. For a sports town that hasn’t had many good years with the Falcons and Hawks, the Braves continue to shine brightest.

I’m taking a trip down memory lane because The Athletic recently ranked all of the City Connect uniforms, and the Braves ‘For The A’ threads, which feature that rich history, came in at third.

3. Atlanta Braves (45)

Hank Aaron chasing his 715th home run in 1974 reminds many of this uniform. “The A” offers a look of nostalgia for older fans.

On-field debut: April 8, 2023

Koreen (19): These are close to perfect, right down to the outline of red around the stylized “A.” It’s classic enough to evoke the past, but not just a retro look.

Jones (15): A nod to the past is always a good idea. I see this Braves alternative and immediately think of Hank Aaron. That it says “The A” makes me think of how Ludacris or T.I. might refer to the city. It’s essentially a throwback with a modern twist on their alternate jerseys.

Edwards (11): It’s a clean uniform. The blue pops. “The A” is a cool touch. It’s not the best uniform, but it’s not bad, by any means.

Some in Braves Country thought it was lazy because it was essentially the uniform that Hank Aaron’s Braves wore, but the subtle ‘The A’ is a nice ode to the newer generation of Braves fans. I loved it, but it’s just the city connect uniforms. The Braves day-to-day uniforms are some of the best across all of sports.
