After yesterday’s game, Brian Snitker informed us Austin Riley was going to hit the IL after sustaining a knee ligament injury while lifting weights. It is not yet known how long the Braves rookie will be out, but those are never words you want to hear in the same sentence.
What we do know is who will be coming up in his place. A fellow rookie, Jeremy Walker, will be called up for the second time this season. He made his major league debut on July 26th and has appeared for the Braves three times this season without allowing a run. With pitchers like Josh Tomlin and Luke Jackson struggling, this is an excellent time for Walker to prove he belongs on a potential playoff roster.
The Braves are unsure when Swanson will be able to return. Whenever it is, he will take someone in the bullpen’s spot on the 25-man. However, it is no guarantee that Walker will be the one heading back to AAA.
