In what seems like a simple salary dump, the Braves have traded Jason Grilli to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league pitcher Sean Ratcliffe. Grilli struggled in his return from Achilles surgery, and with Shae Simmons and Jim Johnson both nearing their return, the Braves took something rather than just releasing Grilli.
If not for the injury, the fan favorite likely would have been traded at last year’s deadline. This is a nice pickup for the Blue Jays, who gave up virtually nothing to acquire him just a year removed from being a dynamic closer in this league. The Braves save the money for the $250,000 club option on his contract for 2017.
We wish the Grilled Cheese the best going forward.
