Cordarrelle Patterson putting his GM hat on for Falcons

Atlanta hasn’t been the most highly sought free agent destination. The Falcons won’t be able to lure marquee free agents because of anything but money, given the club has the second most cap space in the league. Don’t tell Cordarrelle Patterson that, though.

The veteran has been a consistent voice on Twitter for the Atlanta Falcons, telling free agents and coaches that the Hollywood of the South wants them. And it’s continued with the recent news Eric Kendricks and Khalil Mack will be released.

The Vikings just released Kendricks on Monday, and the Chargers are expected to release Mack.

The Falcons could use a couple of proven veterans on the defense, especially one with a track record of pressuring quarterbacks like Mack. The Falcons totaled 21 sacks last year, and Mack has recorded nearly 85 sacks since entering the league in 2014.

Both are former All-Pros and will have extensive markets. The Falcons might not be interested in either veteran because of the team’s timeline. Mack and Kendricks will likely prioritize playing for a contender rather than the team that hands them the biggest check. The Falcons can’t offer them that.

Cordarrelle Patterson has only spent a short time in Atlanta, but he’s rapidly become a fan favorite. All of this recruiting may seem silly; it’s not, though.

Players choose free agent destinations for a number of reasons. Sometimes it’s as simple as whoever offers the most money; other times, geography or the opportunity to win a Super Bowl are factors. Most of the time, it’s a combination of several. A familiar face vouching for a potential landing spot could be what seals the deal.

Keep recruiting CP84!
