Over the weekend, Cordarrelle Patterson took a kickoff to the house, marking the ninth touchdown return of his career, which breaks Devin Hester‘s NFL record. And the Falcons do-it-all veteran earned Player of the Week honors for his record-breaking day against the Bears.

Earlier in the contest, Patterson fumbled in the red zone. It was a deflating turnover. But he more than made up for it as the Falcons were down 10 points in the final minutes of the first half with his 103-yard kick return for a touchdown. And the momentum of the game swung in Atlanta’s favor. It was his seventh career touchdown of 100+ yards; no other player in NFL history has more than four.

Cordarrelle Patterson has quickly become a favorite of Falcons fans, and it’s easy to see why. As electric and versatile as he is on the field, Patterson is an equally impressive human being off the field. Now the owner of the league record for return touchdowns, Patterson will be eyeing how the Pro Football Hall of Fame reacts to Devin Hester being on the ballot because the Falcons swiss army knife will surely be looking to get into Canton when his career is done.

It’s the second time he’s earned Player of the Week honors. Earlier in the season, Patterson earned the award for his offensive performance against the Seahawks in Week 3, in which he recorded a career-high 141 yards on 17 carries, including a score. Surprisingly, this is only the second time he’s earned the award for his effort in the third phase of the game.
