Dan Quinn is Making Positional Changes to the Falcons Roster

Marquis Spruill

Dan Quinn is not wasting any time coming in and making roster moves. The updated Falcons roster shows players listed in different positions than years before. Prince Shembo, who was moved to the inside linebacker position last year, is now listed back to the outside linebacker position. In college, Shembo played outside linebacker, and now he will get to move back to his former position. Vic Beasley, Kroy Biermann, Justin Durant, and Brooks Reed are also listed as outside linebackers. Beasley and Biermann could have been listed as defensive ends, but it looks like Quinn will have these guys standing up and and having their hands in the dirt at different times. The 2014 fifth-round selection, Marquis Spruill, is back from his torn ACL and is looking to add solid depth for Atlanta. He is listed as an inside linebacker and he can challenge starting middle linebacker Paul Worrilow during training camp.

One guy that has come up ever since Dan Quinn became the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons is their third-round pick of the 2014 draft. Dezmen Southward was drafted as a safety in college, but he is listed as a cornerback in the new version of the Falcons roster. It will be interesting to see where Southward plays, as he can play either position. His tall stature is something that Quinn likes in cornerbacks. Look at the Seattle Seahawks defense for the past two years and observe how tall and big their corners were. Southward obviously can play safety because he has played that position his whole life. Either way, expect this player to be a hot topic to discuss as no one truly knows where he will play during the 2015 NFL season.
