ESPN: Falcons sleeper emerges in training camp

The Falcons have a deep roster that will be quite competitive to make, especially for a select few position groups, receiver being one of them. Drake London, Mack Hollins, Scotty Miller, and probably KhaDarel Hodge are locks to make the team. That leaves one or two spots between a handful of players — Frank Darby, Penny Hart, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Keilahn Harris, Slade Bolden, and Mathew Sexton. One of which has reportedly stood above the rest.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted that Frank Darby is a sleeper to keep an eye on.

“A sleeper to file away: wide receiver Frank Darby, who has been a roster bubble guy since entering the league as a sixth-round pick in 2021. But Darby made several nice catches Saturday, including a diving, over-the-shoulder grab by the sideline that hyped teammates.”

Here are some other impressive catches from Falcons training camp, courtesy of Daniel Flick of Sports Illustrated and Kevin Knight of the Falcholic.

There’s no doubt Frank Darby is on the roster bubble, battling for his spot. He has stuck around for a couple of years and is having the best training camp of his professional career, but he has just two catches and 74 offensive snaps since entering the league.

Still, Darby has experience with the club and special teams value. Remember, he was cut last year and wound up on the Falcons practice squad late in the year. His biggest asset is his infectious attitude; expect this position battle to go down to the wire.
