Falcons: 2022 NFL Draft position is official

The Falcons finished the first season under Arthur Smith 7-10 after having the doors blown off by the Saints in the season finale. It was a disappointing season to some, but others probably have a more positive spin on the first year of the new regime.

As we now progress to the offseason, all eyes will be on Terry Fontenot as he approaches his second draft as general manager. Thanks to the loss to New Orleans and Seattle’s Week 18 victory, the Falcons hold the 8th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, which was the best possible outcome heading into the regular season’s final weekend.

Atlanta will be in a great position to bring in another blue-chip caliber prospect like Kyle Pitts sitting inside the top ten. Given the guaranteed run of over-drafting quarterbacks, the Falcons will likely have the opportunity to draft a top-five prospect. Many college players and potential prospects have already declared for the draft that the Falcons should be interested in — Derek Stingley, Sauce Gardner, David Ojabo, Trent McDuffie, Kyle Hamilton, and more.

One thing Falcons fans can absolutely count on come this draft season is for Terry Fontenot to select the highest grade player on their big board. Fontenot won’t care what position it comes at either; expect a best player available approach.
