Falcons defensive coordinator ‘loves’ Cam Jordan-like draft prospect

The Falcons have a number of possible scenarios for their 8th overall pick. Bijan Robinson landing in Atlanta is the most popular prediction among credible NFL insiders, but there could be a prospect higher on the team’s big board that resembles Cam Jordan.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports, “And if you want a wild card, I’ve heard new Falcons DC Ryan Neilsen loves (Tyree) Wilson, seeing a little Cameron Jordan in his game (and the Saints system does favor bigger edge players).”

The Falcons made several changes to the coaching staff in the wake of Dean Pees retiring. Ryan Nielsen will coordinate Atlanta’s defense after spending the last few years in New Orleans as the Saints’ co-defensive coordinator. He has long had talented defensive players, including the All-Pro Jordan, who said this about the Falcons new DC:

The first-time defensive coordinator spent every season working with the Saints’ defensive line since 2017. Over that period, New Orleans recorded 281 sacks, which is the second most in the NFL, finishing in the top 10 in sacks in five of the last six seasons. The Falcons have been on the exact opposite side of that spectrum.

The Falcons have invested heavily into the defensive front — signing David Onyemata, Calais Campbell, Eddie Goldman, Bud Dupree, and Lorenzo Carter while drafting Arnold Ebkietie, Ta’Quon Graham, and DeAngelo Malone — and Tyree Wilson would give the group a young star in the marking.

I seriously doubt the Texas Tech product makes it to the Falcons’ 8th overall pick, but it shouldn’t be completely written off. The similarities between Cam Jordan and Tyree Wilson are uncanny, and if he reaches that level, the team that lands him will be very happy.
