The Falcons announced today that they have exercised Keanu Neal’s fifth-year option for the 2020 season.

Neal was the 17th overall pick in the 2016 draft. In his first two seasons, the safety out of Florida had 218 tackles, 14 passes defended, and eight forced fumbles along with one interception. He’s the enforcer at the back end of the secondary that has allowed the Falcons’ defense to take substantial steps forward since he was drafted.

Last year, Neal tore his ACL in week one of the season. He’s been shown working on agility drills as well as his explosiveness, suggesting he should be more than ready for the start of next season. The Falcons opting to exercise his option also shows their faith that Neal can return to his Pro-Bowl form.
