The Falcons are set to have around $56 million in cap space this offseason, and that figure could quickly balloon to nearly $70 million if Atlanta parts ways with Marcus Mariota. There isn’t a single position group that doesn’t need top-end talent or depth. Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith are entering a critical juncture in their tenure with more cap space than ever. This continues a series of potential Falcons free agent targets, moving on to Dre’Mont Jones. Below are past editions:
- DL Javon Hargrave
- S Jessie Bates III
- DL Daron Payne
- LB David Long
- CB James Bradberry
- DL Dalvin Tomlinson
- EDGE Marcus Davenport
- CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
- OL Isaac Seumalo
- CB Jamel Dean
- TE Dalton Schultz
Falcons Free Agent Targets 2023: Dre’Mont Jones
The Falcons can go in a number of different directions this offseason, but most fans agree they’ll allocate a portion of salary cap funds to the defensive line. Dre’Mont Jones is an intriguing option. He’d be a polarizing choice because he excels as a pass rusher but leaves much to be desired as a run defender.
He’ll never be a great two-gapping interior player, but his ability to get to the quarterback has to interest a Falcons team that hasn’t scared a quarterback in a decade.
According to Spotrac, he has a market value of $7.2 million on an average per year basis, which is a more than reasonable figure for a player that finished the year with seven sacks, 33 hurries, and 45 pressures.
