Falcons land potential Heisman winner in latest mock draft

Regardless of what Desmond Ridder does over the next seven games, the Falcons should be in the market for a quarterback this offseason.

Whether that’s through free agency, a trade or the draft, Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenot cannot go into the 2024 campaign with only Ridder and Taylor Heinicke in the quarterback room.

A lot of mock drafts have Atlanta finding that potential franchise signal caller in the form of Bo Nix and J.J. McCarthy, but this next mock draft has the Falcons taking a different high-profile prospect.

Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports has the club drafting LSU’s potential Heisman winner Jayden Daniels.

Daniels is coming off one of the most impressive games of the season, completing 83% of his passing and scoring eight touchdowns on eight straight drives along with over 500 total yards.

Granted it was against Georgia State, but 8-for-8 is impressive regardless of who a team is facing. After Saturday night’s win, Daniels leads the nation in total yards (4,591), passing touchdowns (36), total touchdowns (46) and yards per play (10.75).

Jayden Daniels should be the Heisman front-runner. His 208.3 passer efficiency rating and the 417.4 yards per game he averages are more than any player to ever win the Heisman trophy. Moreover, his 8.18 yards per carry on the ground leads all players in the country and his 1,014 yards are the most by a quarterback, and it’s not even close.

For the Falcons, Jayden Daniels is a dream scenario for an LSU alumni. Obviously, I have a bias in this conversation, but there’s not a better deep ball thrower in the country than Daniels, and there’s certainly not a more dynamic quarterback with his legs. There are things that need to be refined, but he’s oozing talent.

Atlanta could do much worse than building around an electric athlete like Jayden Daniels.
