NFL free agency hasn’t begun, but teams can re-sign their own impending free agents, and the Falcons have made their first of the offseason. Atlanta agreed to a new deal with Liam McCullough, per the longer snapper’s Twitter.

Outside of some future and reserve deals, this is the first free agent signing the team has made. Many Falcons fans were nervous when McCullough took over for longtime snapper Josh Harris, a Pro Bowl talent, last year. The 2020 undrafted free agent did more than a good job, and it earned him a new contract. He’s only 25 years old and will likely remain the team’s long snapper barring some unforeseen circumstances.

It’s often an overlooked position, along with other specialists, until a team needs a field goal to win the game. The long snapper, holder, and placekicker are a unit. One isn’t more important than the other; you can’t do it without all three. Liam McCullough is part of a very effective unit in Atlanta, which is headlined by Younghoe Koo.
