Falcons reportedly interested in Mike Vrabel

NFL: OCT 08 Titans at Colts

There’s a whirlwind of reports and rumors circulating the Falcons amid their search for a new head coach, and we just received another tidbit. According to Adam Schefter, the club is interested in talking and meeting with Mike Vrabel.

After just six seasons in Tennessee, the Titans parted ways with Vrabel, who was responsible for four winning seasons and three trips to the postseason with a 54-45 (.545) record, which is the 12th-best in the NFL over that period.

Considering the crop of quarterbacks he had to work with (Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill, Blaine Gabbert, Malik Willis, Josh Dobbs, and Will Levis), I’d say that’s an impressive record.

The Falcons would be fools not to at least spin the tires on the idea of Mike Vrabel in Atlanta. He’s a proven winner, a great leader of men, and would give the club a long-term fix.

An interesting dynamic in the idea of hiring Vrabel is his staff. His most successful seasons in Tennessee came with recently fired Falcons head coach Arthur Smith as his offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020. It would be ironic if Vrabel was hired and brought Smith back with; it’d be unprecedented to my knowledge.

Unlike many candidates, Mike Vrabel is one of the best leaders of men in the league, exuding confidence, reliability, relatability, and that “it” factor, which is why it was a shock the Titans fired him in the first place. It was a Tennessee roster devoid of talent that ended up beating Atlanta this season.

Imagine what he could do with a talented, yet underachieving roster.
