The Falcons will host the Eagles the first week of the 2021 season in Mercedez-Benz Stadium.

The last time these two teams played was in September of 2019 when Atlanta beat Philadephia 24-20 in Mercedez-Benz Stadium. An interesting tidbit, in the past five matchups, the home team has won — Eagles (3), Falcons (2). All were generally low-scoring affairs, but I wouldn’t expect that to be the case this year.

The Eagles’ first-round pick, DeVonta Smith, will surely be someone to watch, but Philadelphia is going into the season with either Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco taking snaps from Jason Kelce. I’m not too concerned, even if the Falcons defense is an unproven unit under Dean Pees. The real advantage lies between Arthur Smith’s offense and Jonathan Gannon’s defense, based purely on personnel. The Eagles have major concerns at the second and third level of its defense, and if Smith can establish the run, the Falcons receiving core — Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Kyle Pitts, and Hayden Hurst — will feast.
