NFL insider provides preference for Falcons QB target

Falcons fans are at odds on social media regarding what they think is best for the club at the quarterback position.

Most, except for a few simple-minded individuals, would love to trade up for one of the top three draft prospects, but more than likely, Atlanta won’t have the opportunity as many believe Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels will be the first three selections to the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots.

That’s where the options become polarizing. If you ask some, Justin Fields is by far and away the best option. They’d have a case too. The Georgia native presents the possibility of the Falcons finding their franchise quarterback.

He’s oozing with talent. The hope is that Atlanta’s offensive coordinator, Zac Robinson, along with a solid offensive line and skill group — things he never had in Chicago — will help Fields realize his full potential. However, the other side of the argument is that his lack of development, his contract, and the trade compensation are extremely unattractive.

Some love the idea of Kirk Cousins. The veteran is the most desirable quarterback option for clubs that want to compete in 2024. For Falcons fans who like the idea of signing Cousins in free agency, the draw is obvious — Atlanta would be as competitive as possible.

The downsides with Cousins are also obvious. He’s going to be 36 years old and will likely require a fully guaranteed contract. He’s not a viable long-term solution and will be more expensive for the Falcons than Fields.

If you ask Jordan Schultz, the NFL insider prefers the Falcons to trade for Justin Fields rather than sign Kirk Cousins in free agency because of the tantalizing prospect of the dynamic quarterback joining Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Bijan Robinson.
