NFL still loves playing for Ex-Falcons HC Dan Quinn

NFL: NOV 05 Cowboys at Eagles

One thing about Arthur Smith, Falcons players love playing for him. The same was true with his predecessor, Dan Quinn.

It seems the only thing that could cost Smith his job is the internal support around Flowery Branch dissipating, which hasn’t happened yet. At every waking moment, even in the face of another disappointing season, players voice their endorsement for their head coach.

That’s the exact reason why Quinn was even able to stick around until the 2020 season. Though his time in Atlanta ultimately fell short of expectations, he landed on his feet in Dallas.

The former Falcons head coach has thrived under Mike McCarthy. As a coordinator, his players-coach persona resonates more consistently than as a head coach. The results rarely fall on him, and he can constantly go to bat for his players without the responsibility of answering to the media, but that might not be the case for long.

Quinn has been one of the hottest commodities in the hiring pool each cycle since arriving in Dallas, but he’s yet to seriously consider any of the openings. That might be changing this offseason.

There are a number of vacant spots and soon-to-be openings. The Chargers, Panthers, Raiders, Commanders, Patriots, and Bears could all be searching for a new head coach.

What hasn’t changed for Dan Quinn, though, is how the NFL feels about him; players still love him. In a survey done by the NFLPA, Quinn came in ranked third among defensive coordinators that players most want to play for.

  1. Aaron Glenn – Detroit Lions
  2. Steve Wilks – San Francisco 49ers
  3. Dan Quinn – Dallas Cowboys
  4. Brian Flores – Minnesota Vikings
  5. Raheem Morris – Los Angeles Rams

The former Falcons head coach seems primed to lead the Cowboys to three different top-five marks as a scoring defense. Moreover, Dan Quinn has been well liked wherever he’s been, so he’s sure to be a popular candidate once again.
