Phil Gosselin Out 6-8 Weeks; Braves Call Up Adonis Garcia

Phil Gosselin made an outstanding play Sunday afternoon to save a ball scorching down the line, but unfortunately he hurt his thumb while diving. He will miss 6-8 weeks due to surgery he will undergo on Wednesday to fix the fracture in his thumb. “Goose” has played well in recent weeks, bringing up his batting average to .325 in 40 at-bats. He has proven to be a great commodity off the bench, filling in at various infield positions. He has now been placed on the 15-Day DL. The Braves have filled the roster spot by bringing up Adonis Garcia, a former Yankees farmhand who was released prior to the 2015 season. The Braves took a waiver on the Cuban infielder, and he has been scorching hot down in AAA Gwinnett. He has a .351 batting average with 21 RBI in just 134 at bats in AAA. Garcia also had a strong campaign in AAA for the Yankees last season. With Chris Johnson, Kelly Johnson and Phillip Gosselin all now on the DL, Garcia will likely see a good amount of playing time right from the get-go. The 30-year old Garcia is yet to see the Majors, so we hope his high batting average can translate to big league play.
