Raheem Morris lands most coveted offensive coordinator candidate for Falcons staff

NFL: SEP 19 Rams at Colts

The Falcons have landed the top offensive coordinator candidate that was on the market. According to Adam Schefter, Zac Robinson is joining Raheem Morrs’ staff in Atlanta.

The Falcons had stiff competition for Robinson’s services. The former Rams quarterback coach and pass game coordinator was drawing active interest from the Buccaneers, Saints, Steelers, Patriots, and Raiders.

His ties to Raheem Morris from their time in Los Angeles certainly played a part in him coming to Atlanta. Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and a formidable offensive line probably helped as well.

Robinson, like every subordinate under Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, has never called plays in the regular season but has done so for preseason contests. Still, he’s been instrumental in the Rams’ offensive success this year.

Following a season where Robinson had to cater to Baker Mayfield, John Wolford, and Bryce Perkins, he finally had Matthew Stafford back. The Georgia product returned and was as good as ever, which should be partly attributed to Robinson, in a year where nobody expected anything from the Rams. In addition, Puka Nacua‘s emergence should be considered a notch on Robinson’s belt.

The Falcons’ offense should mimic those of the Shanahan coaching tree, featuring tons of motion and a diverse play-action game from under center that is built off an outside zone run game.

Robinson was the most coveted offensive coordinator candidate in the league, illustrating how valuable Raheem Morris’ relationships around the NFL are going to be.

Players love him and free agents may choose Atlanta over other teams because of him. Likewise, coaches will do the same. The Raheem Morris hire is already paying dividends for the Falcons.
