We know the Falcons will mull potential trades during tonight’s first round of the NFL Draft.

Terry Fontenot confirmed he’s received a ton of calls about moving down the board as an unprecedented offensive class comes through. Quarterbacks, receivers, and offensive tackles will tempt teams to reach out to Fontenot about trading up.

With most of the Falcons roster needs on the defensive side of the ball, they’re in a unique situation to trade out of their 8th pick and still get one of the top defenders.

However, it’s not just trade down scenarios that Fontenot is mulling over. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Falcons are also making calls about trading up… back into the first round.

“Teams that have called on trading up within the top half of the first round: Las Vegas Raiders, Broncos, Vikings, Atlanta Falcons and Giants.”

The club currently holds the following draft picks:

Round 1: No. 8
Round 2: No. 43
Round 3: No. 74
Round 3: No. 79 (from JAX)
Round 4: No. 109
Round 5: No. 143
Round 6: No. 187
Round 6: No. 197 (from CLE)

If Fontenot wanted to package the team’s 43rd pick in the second round along with one of their two third-rounders, that might be enough to trade up into the back half of the first round to land another potential impact player.

Some of the prospects that could interest the Falcons in that area are Quinyon Mitchell, Terrion Arnold, Nate Wiggins, Brian Thomas Jr., Xavier Worthy, Byron Murphy, and more.

We have yet to see a first-round trade, either up or down, for the Falcons under Terry Fontenot. Could tonight be the first time we see Atlanta’s GM move around?
