Report: Falcons to determine if Bill Belichick would be a good fit

NFL: NOV 18 Patriots at Falcons

The Falcons are in the market for a new quarterback after the club parted ways with Arthur Smith around midnight following the team’s embarrassing loss to the Saints.

Atlanta is certainly one of the more attractive head coaching openings. Washington and Los Angeles are the only ones that could be considered better. The Commanders have a ton of cap space, the #2 overall pick, and a decent core of players to build around. Justin Herbert is the biggest draw for the Chargers.

The Falcons have plenty of cap space, all of their draft picks, but need a quarterback. There’s no confusion on the top priority of the new head coach — find a franchise signal caller.

As of right now, there’s a deep pool of potential head coaching candidates, but there’s actually only been one name connected to the opening. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Falcons are going to be interested in Bill Belichick if he’s made available.

Considering Belichick is the only potential candidate that has been connected to the Falcons, he has to be thought of as a serious possibility. I won’t mince words over it, though. I hate the idea.

I understand Belichick is the GOAT, closing in on Don Shula‘s all-time winningest record, and has more Super Bowls than fingers to fit the rings. However, I am not of the opinion that he’s the best fit for the Falcons at this juncture.

Thankfully, it seems Arthur Blank hasn’t already made his mind up because I truly thought from the early reports that if Belichick was open to coming to Atlanta, Blank would sign off immediately.

According to Josina Anderson, the Falcons just have a desire to at least determine if Belichick would be a good fit.
