Report: The Athletics are “close” to trading Sean Murphy, Braves are “frontrunners”

In a bit of surprising news, the Braves appear to be close to acquiring Sean Murphy from the Athletics. With Atlanta’s surplus of catchers, I’m not sure what this move is going to look like. However, Mark Feinsand is reporting the Braves are close to a deal:

Regardless of who the Braves already have at the position, Murphy is a premium talent that would give Atlanta one of the better defensive backstops in the league. Murphy also posted a .756 OPS last season, which is really good for the position. The Braves already have Travis d’Arnaud, Manny PiƱa, and William Contreras. Contreras may be part of the deal, but he could also play left field in a pinch. We’ll see what this trade looks like, if the Matt Olson deal is any indication, the A’s will be getting a haul in return if this gets done.
