SportsTalkATL’s Five: Predicting the season for Dennis Schroder

Atlanta’s most interesting character, Dennis Schroder, will take full reign of the point guard duties this season with the departure of Jeff Teague. Schroder has made it known to the public that he wants to start. He is probably the most competitive player on the team and certainly does not lack confidence. His per 36 numbers for the last two seasons have been stellar and he seems to only get better every year. He will see a ton of the floor, so how do you guys see the season going for the German sensation this season?

Chase Irle: Schroder is already my favorite player on the Hawks, and I have a feeling that is going to be the case for a lot more people after this year. Having two really good point guards cannot be a bad thing, can it? It may be hard to believe, but having Teague and Schroder was not working out for either. Teague wanted to be traded, and the Hawks knew Schroder was the future. I cannot wait Schroder explode onto the scene this season, and he will make an all-star game in the next three seasons.

2016 stat predictions: 17.7 points, 8.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds

Harrison Coburn: There is no doubt that Schroder will be able to fill up the stat sheet in his first season as a starter. He has already had several games with 20 points and 10 assists, which is about what we will be seeing from him every night. The real stat we should focus on is his turnovers. The biggest reason Coach Budenholzer was hesitant to let Schroder start was his sometimes erratic behavior on the court. Schroder does not have to put up superstar stats for the Hawks to succeed, but he does have to hang onto the ball. As time goes on as a starter, his decision making should get a lot better. I am expecting big things from Schroder.

2016 stat predictions: 18.0 points, 7.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds

Shailin Singh: Schroder is one of the best players that the casual NBA fan has never heard of. Because he was coming off the bench behind Jeff Teague, his stats were nothing to write home about. However, Schroder is going to have the stats to back up his game after this season. With no great backup options, Coach Budenholzer will be giving Schroder a ton of minutes. He should continue to get better as the season progresses and will be top 5 in the Most Improved Player voting this season.

2016 stat predictions: 19.2 points, 6.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds

Michael Arkin: Like the other writers have made clear, Schroder is going to be able to fill up the stat sheet. He took over games in the playoffs, which is rare for a player is age. He has superstar talent, and the move to starter should only help develop his game even more. Schroder has improved each an every year since he has been in the league. He may be the quickest player in the NBA, and if he can ever develop a reliable jumpshot, he could end up being one of the top point guards in this league real soon.

2016 stat predictions: 19. 3 points, 8.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds

Brandon Sudge: Schroder will be a productive replacement for Teague, and could potentially even be a better option as he receives a full workload. Last season, he showed glimpses of stardom when given the opportunity. The superstar potential is there, and we are all waiting to see it. He will take a big step forward this season.

2016 stat predictions: 17.2 points, 9.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds
