There are conflicting reports and rumors surrounding Atlanta’s search, but most of them revolve around Bill Belichick’s candidacy. On the other hand, Raheem Morris is a straightforward candidate, one whom D. Orlando Ledbetter believes is the Falcons backup plan to Belichick.

“Belichick reportedly is assembling a staff and could be a candidate in Washington. Former Falcons interim coach Raheem Morris is a potential fallback candidate if the Falcons can’t land Belichick,” the Falcons beat writer said.

Morris spent three seasons as the Buccaneers head coach from 2009-11, winning 10 games in his first full season, and finished the 2020 campaign as Atlanta’s interim following Dan Quinn’s termination.

He has most recently helped the Rams to a Super Bowl as their defensive coordinator, but he does have experience on both sides of the ball.

However, that may not be his most desirable attribute. Morris, who received one hell of an endorsement from Rams general manager Les Snead on Friday, is an attractive head coach to coach with and play for.

“He’s going to give any organization an edge in just how collaborative he is,” Snead said to the Los Angeles writers. “It’s going to be an edge that most teams aren’t going to be able to compete with. I know this, he’ll be able to hire an unbelievable staff.

Every coach who’s any good, who’s qualified, they’re going to want to work for Raheem. And I’m pretty sure there’ll be a lot of tampering charges because just about every player in the NFL’s going to text him and want to come play for him.”

Jalen Ramsey, who Snead acquired from the Jaguars and subsequently traded to the Dolpins, holds Morris in high regard, saying that he’d love to play on whatever team he’s coaching.

Raheem Morris’ ability to connect with players is a valuable quality. It would help the Falcons in free agency and even in their own contract negotiations. Morris receives rave reviews regardless of where he’s coaching and absolutely deserves a shot to be the next head coach in Atlanta.
