“Very shocked”: Kyle Pitts reacts to Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr.

NFL: SEP 17 Packers at Falcons

The Falcons are making headlines again!

If Arthur Blank’s sole goal was to get his club back into the storylines of the NFL media, he’s accomplished it this offseason. Some good, some not so good.

From the head coaching search to free agency, the Falcons haven’t been able to stay out of media pundits’ mouths. Bill Belichick and Kirk Cousins dominated headlines, whether they were positive or negative.

Now, it’s all about Michael Penix, which left most of us scratching our heads. Ironically, after being passed over and seemingly spurned, Belichick loved the pick, even if it was a bit of a reach in his mind.

Like most fans, Falcons players were shocked as well. Kirk Cousins was stunned and described as frustrated by the selection, and he wasn’t the only one. Kyle Pitts was on the Bleacher Report stream during the Falcons pick, and his live reaction was pretty great.

Pitts (and every other Falcons fan) was expecting a defender because Terry Fontenot has seemingly neglected that side of the ball, but unsurprisingly, the former 4th overall pick is quite high on the Washington product.

The process is flawed, but Michael Penix the prospect has upside.

Outside of the top three quarterback prospects, Penix’s arm strength is head and shoulders better than his counterparts. He can absolutely spin the ball. Though the injuries can be seen as a concern, you could look at it from a viewpoint of resilience. There’s a ton to like about Michael Penix the prospect, but again, it’s hard to look past the incompetence of the Atlanta Falcons.

I hate it for Penix too because there will be no vindication either positive or negative for years to come.
