What position will the Falcons draft at #8?

The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Falcons are set with a top-10 pick for the third consecutive cycle.

With another premium pick, the club once again has an opportunity to add a blue chip prospect. Atlanta has been mocked to land a number of different players — Jalen Carter, Christian Gonzalez, Bijan Robinson, Peter Skoronski, Tyree Wilson, Devon Witherspoon, Lukas Van Ness, Nolan Smith, Paris Johnson Jr., and others.

Terry Fontenot has done a valiant job rounding out the roster via free agency. For the first time in years, it actually feels like the team is in a great spot approaching the draft. This leaves the club in a position to draft the best player available, which is what Atlanta’s GM wants to do.

Your guess is as good as mine, but it’s pretty clear what side of the ball they are targeting — defense. Moreover, the position of the Falcons future first-round pick is revealing itself as well.

FanDuel odds have a defensive lineman as the overwhelming favorite to be the Falcons pick — DL (-250), RB (+600), OL (+700), CB (+900), WR (+2000), QB (+2000).

That means we are looking at Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, Tyree Wilson, Lukas Van Ness, and Nolan Smith as possible targets. Some of those names will likely be gone by the time the Falcons are on the clock, so in reality, it’s probably down to Wilson, Van Ness, and Smith.
