“50-50”: Falcons, Vikings vying for Kirk Cousins’ services

NFL: SEP 10 Buccaneers at Vikings

Earlier in the offseason, most of Falcons’ social media would’ve had you believe that Justin Fields to Atlanta was a done deal. The Georgia native’s next team odds leaned heavily in favor of the Falcons, but it didn’t last long.

Most recently, the momentum is behind Kirk Cousins signing with Atlanta. Similarly, the Falcons are betting favorites to be the veteran’s next team. However, this time of the year is smoke screen season and everything should be seen as a fluid situation until pen is put to paper.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Friday that Terry Fontenot may not even have a chance to sign him, saying there’s still a chance that Minnesota and Kirk Cousins reach an extension before he hits free agency.

He’s adding even more context to his comments in his latest free agency piece for ESPN, with one Viking source saying, “We’re not out of it,” while another team source told Fowler it feels like a “50-50 proposition.”

The Falcons remain in the conversation. Fowler added, “Atlanta has remained a major threat, and that hasn’t changed. He is believed to be the Falcons’ No. 1 target, with owner Arthur Blank motivated to solve Atlanta’s quarterback issues.”

For Kirk Cousins, it does seem like it’ll be Atlanta or Minnesota at this point. 50-50 could either be looked at positively or negatively, depending on how you view Cousins under center for the Falcons.

If it’s the right price, the veteran signal caller is by far the best option on the open market to make the club as competitive as possible in 2024.
