Another Braves top prospect is promoted

Vaughn Grissom call up

Another Braves top prospect is promoted – MLB Pipeline recently released their Top 100 Prospects list, and the Braves only had one player make it — Michael Harris. But, as Jake Gordon pointed out last week, he has now officially graduated as a prospect. Spencer Strider also graduated prospect status recently, so the Braves farm system is looking incredibly barren. However, there is one player in the lower levels that could be featured on several Top 100 Prospect lists very soon — Vaughn Grissom.

Grissom is a powerful 6’3″ shortstop that is turning heads a lot like Michael Harris II did when he was playing for High-A Rome. That’s some high praise, given all Harris has done for the Braves as a rookie, but Grissom is more than deserving. In fact, he’s performing even better than Harris was at the plate in his first stint in Rome. Through 64 games this season, Grissom has already smacked 11 bombs to go along with a .312 average. He also has no problems taking his walks, which can be seen by his .401 OBP.

Good Month in June for Grissom

June was especially good to Grissom, as he hit .355 with a .957 OPS, and he’s started off July even hotter. In four games since the calendar turned, Grissom has a 1.338 OPS with a couple of homers and three doubles. As a result, the Braves have promoted him to AA Mississippi.

Paying dividends – Another Braves top prospect is promoted

Guys like Grissom, Harris, and Strider are perfect examples of why the Braves are set up for a long window of sustained success. Most great players aren’t found in the first round. They are littered throughout the draft. Grissom was an 11th-round pick, and before long, he could be a Top 100 prospect at just 21 years old. Hard work definitely pays off we are excited to see what the future holds.
