At least in the sporting world, it’s starting to feel a bit more like normal. Septemeber is arriving; baseball is in full throttle, the NFL is around the corner, and the NBA playoffs have just begun with the lottery set to take place tomorrow.

Thursday will be an exciting day for Hawks fans, at least leading up to the lottery. History tells us that we shouldn’t get our hopes too high, but Atlanta is due for something great to happen, and a #1 pick would be a fantastic start. They have the fourth-best odds to do so at 12.5%, just behind the Warriors, Timberwolves, and Cavaliers.

If they do land somewhere among the top three picks, homegrown talent, Anthony Edwards, would be at or near the top of their draft board. The Atlanta product decided to take his skills to the University of Georgia, where he averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists as a freshman. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in this year’s class, and he is fond of the idea of playing for his hometown team.

In an exclusive interview with Bleacher Report, Taylor Rooks asked the potential #1 overall pick what he thinks about the teams at the top of the lottery. Like a true professional, Edwards had nothing negative to say about any organization, but he did show a little favoritism to his hometown Hawks, stating it would “be a dream come true” to play in Atlanta.

Travis Schlenk would probably agree with him too. The Hawks still have yet to find a running mate for Trae Young in the backcourt. Kevin Huerter’s shown a lot of promise in his first two years, but he doesn’t possess the type of ball-handling and playmaking skills necessary to let Young play off the ball a lot, where he can be his most dangerous. Edwards, on the other hand, can do it all.
