Anthopoulos talks about where the Braves could potentially add before the trade deadline

Braves trade deadline

The trade deadline is less than two months away, and the Braves once again are poised to be one of the more active teams come the end of July. In an interview with 680 The Fan earlier this week, Alex Anthopoulos even admitted to already making calls to teams about potential trades. Although, he also mentioned how difficult it is for other clubs to pull the trigger and sell their assets this early in the season.

If the Braves are going to make a trade, it will probably be at least another month until they do so, especially with the way they’ve been playing as of late. However, in that same interview, Anthopoulos talked about potential areas the team could look to upgrade ahead of the deadline.

“Do you try to add a starter, and then have him (Spencer Strider) back in the ‘pen as a power arm, which would obviously help,” Anthopoulos said. “Having one more arm out of the bullpen from the right side; we’d certainly love to have that as well. And also, if there is a left-handed bat out there, you’d love to have that as well. All that being said, we get to the end of July, beginning of August, there’s a real scenario that Tyler Matzek is back, Eddie Rosario is back, Mike Soroka is back, Kirby Yates is back, so a lot of those problems are solved.”

A few weeks ago, I would have guaranteed the Braves would make several trades before the deadline, but as Anthopoulos has said, things change, and they certainly have for Atlanta recently. Not only are the Braves rolling, but they are getting unexpected contributions from William Contreras and Michael Harris. If that continues, and this team starts to get guys like Tyler Matzek, Eddie Rosario, and Mike Soroka back — there’s not going to be much that they need come the trade deadline. Regardless, we can expect Anthopoulos to be working the phones nonstop over the next two months in an attempt to upgrade the Braves as much as possible.
