Austin Riley confident Braves will lock down the NL East tonight

Yesterday’s shutout loss to the Marlins may have been the most uninspiring the Braves have looked all season. But as I’ve stated, dropping that game shouldn’t have shocked anybody.

The Braves were coming off a Sunday Night Baseball game and had to travel to Miami, where they didn’t get in until the following morning. If you’re a gambling man, you know it’s very profitable to bet on the home team in that situation, and the Marlins did what they were supposed to do.

Tonight, a much fresher Braves team gets another chance to lock down the NL East once and for all. Jake Odorizzi is on the bump for Atlanta, which doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence, but Austin Riley believes the Braves will take care of business without needing to win Game 162.

With just two games left on the slate, I understand why Braves fans feel a little uneasy following last night’s abysmal performance. But if there is any team that deserves the benefit of the doubt, it’s the Braves. Time and time again, over the last two seasons, Atlanta has come through with all the chips on the line, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t do it tonight, even with Jake Odorizzi on the bump to start the game.
