Bijan Robinson among The Athletic’s most intriguing players in 2023

NFL: AUG 04 Atlanta Falcons Training Camp

The Falcons are set to surprise a lot of people in 2023. They were an above average offense last year without competent quarterback play. If Desmond Ridder can keep the train on the tracks, it has all the makings for a top 10 group, and Bijan Robinson will power it.

The 8th overall pick will be featured as a running back, garnering more carries than Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson. He’s special in that facet, displaying a special combination of elusiveness, balance, vision, and power.

However, the Falcons didn’t draft him that high to just run the ball; he’ll be featured as a receiver and could be targeted as much as anyone not named Kyle Pitts and Drake London in this Atlanta offense.

It’s why The Athletic named Bijan Robinson one of 23 players that will be the most interesting to watch this season.

Already being discussed as a challenger to Young for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Robinson is expected to have a huge impact for the Falcons as a ball carrier (he’s described as the best rookie running back prospect since Barkley) and pass catcher (Robinson this preseason displayed great hands and an ability to run a variety of routes).

‘A challenger to Bryce Young for Offensive Rookie of the Year’ isn’t accurate. Robinson is the frontrunner as it stands today; he’s the overwhelming favorite. Moreover, the Falcons and Panthers will square off in the season opener on Sunday in Atlanta, so we should get a good idea of what each is capable of immediately.

What gives me pause about Bryce Young’s chances at the OROY award is the surrounding talent. The offensive line is porous, and the skill group leaves a ton to be desired. I wouldn’t expect much from the 1st overall pick. He’s special, and I believe he’ll be a stud, but Carolina’s supporting cast is piss poor.
