Braves: Alex Anthopoulos’ son likes making trades like his dad

Alex Anthopoulos trade deadline

This is the busiest time of the year for MLB GMs, as they work around the clock in an attempt to prepare their team for a World Series run in 2024. All of them are drained of sleep, but by the look on Alex Anthopoulos’ face at this year’s MLB Winter Meetings, nobody would have guessed it.

The Braves GM is one of the hardest working men on the planet this time of year, and it shows by the product on the field. Anthopoulos takes the “leave no stone unturned” saying to a new level, and every year there are countless examples.

The Braves don’t just excel because of their top end talent. Every minute detail of their 40-man roster is considered this time of year, and oftentimes, it is names fans have never heard of that end up making an impact in critical moments. The 35th guy on the roster is just as important as the first. That’s what makes Alex Anthopoulos one of the best GMs in all of sports, and from some of his comments at the Winter Meetings, his 11-year-old son may be following in his footsteps.

“He definitely, like I’ll be in the car and he’ll be like can we call so-and-so,” Anthopoulos said about his son being involved in negotiations. “When we were working on with the White Sox, he’s like can you call Chris Getz. He’s calling me everyday wanting to get updates.”

What a life to live?

Every Braves fan reading this article, and myself included, would love to be a fly on the wall in any negotiation involving Alex Anthopoulos. I dream of just having five minutes to pick the brain of Anthopoulos, where he would have to answer me honestly. At 11-years-old, I’m not sure how much input his son is able to offer, but I’m sure somewhere down the line we’ll hear a story where he had an impact on an offseason decision, and perhaps he’ll help propel the Braves to a World Series one day, just like his father.
